Cook's pole climbing apparatus was used to determine the antipsychotic activity and is based on principle of ability of psychotropic drugs to avoid conditioned response. This apparatus was used for inducing stable baseline behavior.

Cook’s pole Climbing Apparatus is completely based on new design, incorporating latest solid state circuitry for lames &shock.The chamber for the animals is fabricated from clear Perspex sheet. The button of the chamber is fitted with Chrome plated Bars to make a grill.The apparatus is also equipped with light & sound stimulus for stimulating the animal.

A shock can be applied to animal through Brass Bars. The shock strength I 400V, 5Hz, 0.2mA. This built is built in the apparatus. One can apply the shock to the animal either manually or up to the controlled duration. Both the options are available in the apparatus.Delay of shock application to the animal & the shock duration are controlled by built in 11 positions timer.Output for connection to kymograph or recorders is brought out on terminals on the front panel.The control panel is fitted on the right hand side of the instrument and is clearly marked with each function. The front panel is also provided with protective door.A dropping tray, which is removable for cleaning is provided under the chamber.

The complete apparatus is housed in a beautiful wooden cabinet which consists of below fittings:

  1. Socket for mains lead.
  2. ON/OFF switch
  3. Power ON indicator
  4. Stimulant Selection Switch
  5. Push Button for stimulus application
  6. Shock mode select switch delayed or ready.
  7. Shock delay timer 11 positions switch to select delay for the application of shock from 0.5 seconds to 30 seconds +/-3 Sec,
  8. Indicator for delay time (Green), remains on for the duration of delay period.
  9. Output terminals for the connections to recording drum or kymograph for the shock delay time.
  10. Switch for selection of shock mode Manual/Auto.
  11. Push Button for Manual Shock application-shock applied as long as the button is kept pressed.
  12. Shock timer for application of shock when Manual/Auto Switch (10) in Auto shock application time from 0.5sec to 30 sec +/-3 sec.
  13. Indicator (Red) of the shock duration.
  14. Terminals for recorded or kymograph for the shock duration time.
